About the role

The African Studies Tutor will deliver engaging, age-appropriate virtual lessons focused on African history, culture, civilizations, contributions, and diaspora studies. The tutor will teach in 1:1 and small group settings, helping students develop cultural identity, historical awareness, and critical thinking skills. This is a contract role, and compensation will be paid per teaching hour

What you'll do

  1. Deliver structured and interactive African Studies lessons to students ages 5–18
  2. Teach topics including African civilizations, leaders, arts, culture, geography, and diaspora history
  3. Integrate storytelling, multimedia, and culturally relevant teaching strategies
  4. Prepare lesson materials aligned with Efiko Learning’s curriculum framework
  5. Provide feedback to parents on student progress
  6. Maintain professionalism in all students and parent interactions
  7. Attend occasional virtual team meetings or training sessions


What we're looking for

  1. Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in African Studies, History, Cultural Studies, Education, or related field
  2. Minimum 2 years teaching or tutoring experience (online experience preferred)
  3. Strong understanding of African history and diaspora perspectives
  4. Experience teaching children (ages 5–18)
  5. Excellent communication and classroom management skills
  6. Reliable internet connection and ability to teach virtually

Preferred:

  1. Teaching certification
  2. Experience working with students in the Diaspora or equivalent setting
  3. Curriculum development experience
